Nostalgia Nights put on by the Pottstown Classics Car Club once a month between May and September certainly live up to their name.
“Parents bring their kids out and say, ‘I used to have that kind of car,’ ” said Tony Ziemba Jr., club president. “It brings back memories of the cruising era.”
Ziemba used to cruise in the 1970s on Pottstown’s High Street, which was then a regional capital for driving around for fun on a weekend night. He’s been involved with the car shows downtown for the last 10 years.
The next show is coming up on Saturday at High and Hanover streets from 5 to 9 p.m.
In addition to the muscle cars, Ziemba is also looking for modern cars with LED-light displays to join the show for a special competition.
Kids can join the car fun with a Hot Wheels race on a new toy track. They can bring their favorite toy cars or use one provided at the event, which is free to attend. It costs $10 to register a grown-up vehicle in the show.
Ziemba and his fellow car club member Gary Pace will also spend an hour each in a dunk tank. It costs $2 for three balls or $5 if people would rather push the dunk button and guarantee a splash.
Proceeds are donated to the Pottstown AMBUCS, Relay for Life events in Pottstown and Boyertown, the Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities, Pottstown Police Athletic League and Meals on Wheels.
