Downtown Alive, the summer concert series presented by Reading Downtown Improvement District and Berks County Community Foundation, has announced that A Flock of Seagulls will headline its June 19 concert on Penn Street.

The Liverpool band is known for its hits such as “I Ran (So Far Away)” and “Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)” just as much as it’s known for frontman Mike Score’s iconic highly gelled and nearly impossible to describe hairstyle.

Score remains part of the line-up, and toured with new members of the band from 2004 to 2017. In 2018 the original lineup appeared together for the first time since 1984.

Regional ’80s cover band Sloth Love Chunk will open the concert, which kicks off at 5 p.m. on the 500 block of Penn Street.

The announcement comes on the heels of Downtown Improvement District’s announcement that local favorite Go Go Gadjet and DJ duo Black Caviar will open the summer series with a show on May 29.

Admission to all Downtown Alive shows are free, and the event’s festival atmosphere will return via food trucks, beer and wine sales and activities for children.

Berks County Convention Center Authority is also signed as a major sponsor of Downtown Alive this year.
